I think we (Physical Activity and Sport) are one of the areas ‘under development’. As I noted at the Assembly meeting the job at the moment is to understand the assembly and thematics, so that we can shape the Physical Activity & Sport (SPA) thematic in the best way. My initial conversations with Miranda when we first spoke about it was that a number of networks and groups already exist for SPA and I was keener to align them rather than set something up additional.
In terms of a summary, the countywide Framework for Healthy Active Lifestyle (‘Move Northamptonshire’) probably gives the best overview of what our sector is trying to achieve. Progress :
‘Move Northamptonshire’ : System-wide Framework for Healthy Active Lifestyles completed Summer’23. 18month process of consultation with over 200 organisations from public, private and voluntary sector. Approved by West HWB Board on 28th Sept.
Holiday Activities & Food Programme (Summer Holiday) : Across Northamptonshire 63 providers offered 40,000 places for eligible children (Free School Meals); 43,706 bookings were made and there were 33,707 recorded attendances (4,450 individuals) £1,072,196 was invested in face to face provision.
School Games : The programme of School Games events, competitions and festivals kicked off in September at the start of the new academic year. To date a total of 54 events have been organized. However, due to the weather a number of events were postponed. A total of 5,154 throughput attendances have been recorded so far at the events that have been delivered; furthermore, 514 young leader opportunities were created to deliver these events.
Future Plans :
‘Move Northants’ Activations Events are being planned for the New Year, drawing together stakeholders around the ‘Enabler’ themes. The first is likely to be around ‘Active Ageing’.
We are moving at pace as one of the pioneer areas for Sport England’s roll out of their Priority Places Investment. £250m nationally into 8-10 priority places across the country. Taking an asset-based community development approach in four areas of Northamptonshire – Kings Heath, Queensway, Kingswood, Lode Park.
Working hard to integrate Active Lives into the strategy, planning and investment decisions of the Integrated Care System. Working closely with the LAPs and Place Delivery Boards.
